RBMAR: Fireside Chat - Metronomy - Because Music, London
Labels:
Radioshow
From humble beginnings in Totnes, Devon around 1999, Metronomy are the discerning electronic music lover's favourite indie band. Consisting of main man Joseph Mount, Oscar Cash, Anna Prior, and Gbenga Adelekan, Metronomy have remixed everyone from Air to Roots Manuva, and Franz Ferdinand to Kate Nash. Metronomy’s debut album 'Pip Paine (Pay The £5000 You Owe)' came out in 2006 after Joseph Mount had decamped from Totnes to Brighton to go to University. Shortly after Erol Alkan invited Metronomy to play live at his club, Trash, in London, so Mount needed a proper live show, which is when friends Oscar Cash and Gabriel Stebbing joined the group. Just before the release of their third album ‘The English Riviera’ in 2011, Stebbing left the band, and Anna Prior and Gbenga Adelekan joined. Recorded in a former garage in Wapping, East London, 'The English Riviera' became a proper pop record with Joseph Mount continuing to write all the songs, as well as keeping his hand on production duties. Although now sharing his time between London and Paris, their music's roots still sit in Totnes and the musical style he has jokingly dubbed the 'Devon Sound'. In this chat they trace back some of their defining moments.
